To Paint or Not to Paint

Many many many years ago I fancied myself somewhat of a painter. Kind of. I did major in it in college, well, Art Studio with a concentration in painting. I spent hours and hours painting and drawing while my housemates highlighted through textbooks giving me mean looks. A lot of time also was spent just staring at whatever I was working on and thinking about it. I actually set time aside now to "think" about things. I'm not even kidding. Sometimes someone will ask me of I have decided on something. Like going somewhere, to a function or something and rather irritably I will say, "I haven't had time to think about it yet." Like looking in my calender wouldn't be sufficient. I think it's another form of the art I have perfected known as procrastination. I'm going to tell you something. Something I never even paid any attention to, that is until Rachel saw me do it for like the hundredth time and finally questioned me on it. So sometimes I will leave one thing, something I just don't "feel" like putting away in the dishwasher over and over again. Right now it's a little pink plastic shot glass that I use in the morning, I'm kidding. I use it to give Rachel's daughter juice in. Hannah loves drinking out it. Hannah hasn't been here since early August. i kid you not, it's has been washed like 700 times. I don't know why. Now it's just a matter of principle, I can't take it out. Not until Rachel sees it one more time. Then, and only then will I just pick it up and put it away. I'm odd.
Back to painting, this is another thing I haven't done in a long time. I do however spent a lot of time thinking about it. Tons really. Every fall I decide this is the fall I am going to get my stuff out again and paint. Last year I even went and bought all new paints and brushes. I painted nothing. This year this whole thought process has started over again. It's stronger now though and I have the perfect thing I want to start with. I just need to get a canvas. I'm not even going to consider stretching my own cause I could waste another three years thinking about that. I need to just go and buy one. Today, maybe, we'll see......

Tomorrows Weather: 76 Sunny.

Stop at Michaels today for the canvas. Paint tomorrow.

As a wonderful yoga instructor says
"just do it"

Enjoy.

(PS. I joined Longwood Gardens this year to start shooting photography/paint again this year...we'll see...)

mycybertwinamy... Don't think I'd quite call myself an artist but I do own 1000 different colors of acrylics and a big roll of canvas.

Oh, and I would TOTALLY leave the pink shot glass since August.

Put the brush to the canvas already.

i remember the magic of the painting studio at bloomsburg those many years ago. and i specifically recall you showing me a fellow painter's work... the one with the pig in the window.

naturally i got all excited when i saw that you thought about painting again. you've got real talent, girl. "think" about it :)

My cousin and I started and artist's colony last year. it's great fun.Once a week or so we make dinner, have wine on the patio, and sometimes get around to actually putting brush to canvas. Michael's has the best prices on canvas that's already been stretched and mounted. (Oh, god...I do believe I set myself up for that one..oh well...) I've got a few interesting pieces to show you whenever you decide to get down to DC!!!!

Go paint. Or not. Whatever. But if/when you do, please share it with all of us. 'Cause I wanna see.

I'm mildly freaking over your dishwasher story. I do the same thing. All the time. Right now I've washed a little pink, plastic cup about 14 times.

Man, it feels so good to admit that. And to know I'm not alone in the world when it comes to random weirdness.

Is this going to be taking more of my time away. Now you are signed up on the decoration committee of Adam's Bar Mitzvah.

Kathy, took your advice.
PRD, now all I need is to take yours.
Meredith, that shot glass is in for the long haul.
Jami, you are the best cheering section ever.
Jen, Is your artist colony like that time YOU were a yoga teacher? Just curious. I'll be down soon. I promise.
Lula, I'm so glad to here there's more of us out there. I have also been known to leave junk mail in the mailbox for days at a time.
Lisa, you can sit next to me the whole time. It will not affect you at all, I promise.
Anonymous, I'm glad to hear from you again, love the Jackson site. You ROCK.

You artists today are all the same... CRAY-Z. Are you trying to melt pour little Hanna's throat? Take that now-highly-toxic PLASTIC shot glass OUT of the dishwasher! And let me know what time I'm sitting for you.

Oh, see now, that's why you read the other comments before you post. Everybody else is all...what's the word...Nice?

Amy, another thing we have in common... procrastination. I've been telling myself I will get back into the photography thing, which I pretty much gave up as an art form nearly 15 years ago. Every year, on Jan 1, I resolve to develop a portfolio in the next 12 months. If you paint something for me, I'll produce an awesome photo for you. Actually, it's a lot harder to give up a painting than a photo, so you paint something killer, and I'll shoot it and blow it up for my apartment. I'll still produce another killer photo of my own creation. Let's just get it done already. Also, I want to see Jen in DC. I'm headed down there in October for business, so maybe we can make that a business/pleasure trip and I'll take care of the hotel room. Love you lots. Mark

Jen, I'd love to see you. If I come for business and Amy can't come, let's still get together. Hope you are well. Mark

Oh my God. I'm coming, don't you two make plans without me. Not after missing Kid Rock FB, don't even think about it. Tell me when and I'll be there.
FB is nice.
