If You Want It...

You better ask.

Seriously, ask for it. Ask God, as the Universe, ask Ra, ask whomever it is you ask for things, but ask. Ask a lot. Ask twice on Tuesdays. If you want it, put it out there. It's such a simple concept, right? Like The Secret. Like things you know already. Things that have been stuck in your head for years. The thing is, sometimes it needs to be brought to your attention. You might need a reminder. You might have gotten tripped up in life. Caught in the shuffle. Brought down by this shitty economy. Maybe it's not completely directly affecting you, I don't see how, in some way it must. People around you have lost their jobs. Stores are closing. People are just walking away from their homes. It's insane. The collective "we" have never seen this before. Most of us were probably brought up in the high times. You asked, you got. And if you didn't, you know you're kids are, because we are the generation that wants them to have EVERYTHING we didn't have. Even if it was that $120 pair of sneakers that we didn't deserve in the first place.
So where does that leave us now? Now that times are tough? Now that you might actually think about which grocery store you are going to. Maybe not buy everything that catches our eye. Vacations are cut. Out to dinner is thought about twice. Coupons are used. So many tiny things change. But change is a double edge sword, right? It can be bad. It can be hard when things aren't the same as they used to be. It can also be good, because with change brings learning. Learning to do things in a new way. And maybe, just maybe, it might be a better way. Cause you know, I am always, forever, looking for that silver lining. If I wasn't, I don't know what the hell I would do with myself half the time.
What was I talking about? Oh, yes. Ask. That's all, if you want it. Just ask for it. It's so simple. It's an idea that you feel inside yourself. You formulate it, believe it, than put it out there for someone or something else to grab on to to. Like that movie, you all know what I'm talking about, "If you build it, they will come."
And then you need to believe. Well, that's what I do. I can only speak for myself. :)

I love this one! 2 of my fav books are "the law of attraction" and "ask and it is given" by esther and jerry hicks. Both are great reads and work on the same principle. If you ask for something then, then truly believe it is yours with absolutely no doubt in the world, you've created it. It is yours. You attract what you think. If you think negative thoughts, even if you don't want those things, you are giving those things life and negative things happen. Negative attracts negative and positive attracts positive.
Kudos A-$

I'm asking for a box of Ring Dings right now.

I know who you are anonymous, go ask the 7 Eleven guy for them. Just make sure that's all you ask for. :)

What is that other saying? Be careful what you ask for? I'm thinking people asked for too much. Things that had no meaning in the large scheme of things. And things that led to their current situation. Why not just be? Be grateful.

First of all, I just wanted to point out that I wasn't linked to today.

Really, though, do you want to hear a anecdote? Well you're going to anyway... Jade went to a dance last Friday and came home a little upset that no boys asked her to dance. I told her that on Monday, when she goes to school, just know, just believe that the boys that liked were too scared to ask you to dance and will ask you out soon enough. Guess what. A boy asked her out that very day. I believe!!!

I'm with Simple Answer. Be grateful for what we do have. Value our immaterial possessions more than our material ones. (A lesson driven home by the #$%^& cat)

Oooh, and I am so there with the Ring Dings!!!!! I didn't know that they still made them. Better head to WAWA now!

Totally. Ask. And be grateful. That's all you need to do. :)

I'm thinking Amy may have rushed this post a little bit, or perhaps been two-thirds or more through her latest box of wine when she wrote it. I'll bet she even bought it with a coupon. I hear they sell that at CVS now. Just kidding, sis. Even I am tempted to drink boxed wine now that the economy has directly affected my income, but I have chosen to do without alcohol for the forseeable future instead. That is, unless someone else is providing it. The reason I think this post was rushed is not because I am not fully on board with what Amy is saying, but I think she comes off contradicting herself by saying we all need to cut back, but just ask and you shall receive. Clearly, she didn't mean to connect the effects of the economy and the "ask for it" behavior. It's more likely that ADD hijacked her thoughts momentarily.

If I can help clarify--and I can only do this because Amy and I have had the "just ask" conversation many times before--Amy is simply saying that if you want something in life, you're unlikely to get it if you don't put some effort into it. That effort starts with belief and making a statement to the universe about that belief. Whether you make that statement to a higher power, to a friend or to your journal is irrelevant. Just make the statement to get the ball rolling. It's not about asking for a million dollars and having Ed McMahon show up on your doorstep the next day (although that would be very nice); it's about taking personal responsibility for what you want in life. If you want a million dollars, then put it out there, and with your energies properly directed, you will find a way to work toward that goal. Or, maybe you want a new job, or a date, or to feel closer to your family. Nothing happens by ignoring what's missing or complaining that it's missing. In fact, ignoring or complaining will do the opposite. It will confirm the missing status to the universe and you will be stuck.

I've been talking about two extra inches around my waist for at least a year. I was constantly reliving my life just two years ago when I was in much better shape. The universe backed me up... it said that I was indeed in good shape at one time, and now I am not. Nothing changed until I started the change by making a commitment. I set a goal, I told my trainer, I developed an appropriate diet, am getting more sleep, and I increased my commitment at the gym. In two short weeks, I see a difference already. My goal is to be in better shape by my next birthday than I was two years ago. It's possible. I just have to keep putting it out there, keep asking, and it will come. No doubt.

Thanks, Amy, for this great post. It will help increase my focus even more. I put it out there and the universe enlisted you to help me out. It works.

Love you madly, M

I wasn't saying ask for a new car or a million dollars. I was saying ask for what you want for your life. There is a difference. Just like people are different. There are those who will settle for what they have even if they are not truly happy. There are people that are truly happy and there are people that will make sure they are truly happy. It has absolutely nothing to do with not being grateful for what you already have. Not even in the slightest.
I did write this off the top of my head. It was what I felt at that present moment after a long day of things going on. It is also something I believe in my heart. You need to ask. Or don't. I'm going to.

Hey, I put that "Ring Ding" request out there and guess what? I found a box of Brownie mix in the pantry (I had forgotten about it.....) So I am a believer. A believer with a big mug of Java and a sugar high.

Love you too, Amy

Still waiting for the conclusion of the cat story.........and Ed McMahon.

Amy, exactly. We're on the same page. You can settle for less than what you deserve and want, and most people fall into this camp, or you can ask for more out of life, and work toward getting more. It's a choice.

Kathy, there is a funny story that I would love to tell about my last day with the cat, but I don't want to hijack Amy's blog with my cat saga. Suffice it to say that there was a lot of crying, a little by me, but more by the two cat adoption consultants. They were WAY over the top. The cat landed in a good home last weekend. I hope he stays there and is happy.
